The other night my oldest and I were laying out her clothes for school the next day and she selected this fancy dress she got for Christmas.
The gut reaction (and therefore the first thing out of my mouth…) was “No, that’s so nice, you have to save it.” She looked up at me with those big blue eyes and asked in the most inquisitive, innocent, and authentic way, “Save it for what?”. I had no answer.
What on earth are we saving things for? I mean, maybe not a ball gown for a target run or dropping a few grand on shoes without thinking, but in general…
Perhaps if we look at every day as special, unique, and worthy of all our time, attention, (and party dresses) maybe we will be a bit more present and enjoy them to the fullest —like the cutest four year old I know.
And yes. I let her wear the dress!
